Broadband Speed Development in UK

If you live in the UK and you don’t have broadband service, you are not alone. The vast majority of United Kingdom citizens are without broadband internet service. Parliament has recently recognized this problem, and has vowed to correct it with the new initiative, Broadband Development UK. The biggest initiative to correct this problem thus far, broadband speed development in UK will allow all citizens to enjoy high speed internet.

However, many question the goals of this new initiative. After all, broadband speed development in UK won’t happen overnight. Yet, the goals of the initiative are rather simple. Parliament aims to have at least 2 mbps universal service to all citizens by the end of this parliament in 2015. By that time, the goal is to have the best superfast broadband in Europe. They will also make sure that funding is used efficiently in this endeavor, and support other government initiatives that depend on citizens having broadband access. Lofty goals, to be sure, but they can be met through careful planning.

You may be wondering how exactly parliament plans on meeting these goals. Basically, they are going to “engage” other stakeholders and entice them to get cracking and offer these services. This means that grants and other funding will be offered to telecommunications companies to expand their service areas, which does indeed take money to do. Wiring and cables must be run in order to provide “super fast” broadband service. However, there is some concern that the broadband speed development in UK will not be fast enough, nor will the right people get the funding.

After all, there are many companies that have stopped waiting on the government and have simply begun offering services in rural areas. These companies, such as Solway Communications, have expanded service areas without any such funding from the government. Instead of focusing on expensive wiring and cables to expand service, they focused on wireless solutions. What will happen to these pioneers in the industry if other companies are suddenly given funding and grants to expand their services? It hardly seems fair to those that are already working hard on broadband speed development UK.

All in all, the initiative is one that is well overdue, and many are glad to hear of it. While there may be flaws, this is true of nearly everything that comes out of any government. Nobody is perfect. Still, most citizens of the UK will believe in the broadband speed development UK project once they actually have a connection.  Take the time now to do an internet speed check for reference and then complete another internet speed check when the project is completed to measure your speed gains.
