In agreement with local residents, your Cann Hall Safer Neighbourhood Police Team has revised their priorities for the coming months. Policing will focus on drug dealing, disorder amongst young people and houses in multiple occupation. Lib Dem Cllr Laura Sheppard said: "It's great to involve the police with local residents' priorities. I know, from talking to local people, that these issues are very important to them."

The Government has proved, once again, that it is out of touch with reality by listing George Mitchell School as a failing school. How bonkers can you get? Recent inspections by Government officials found that the school was outstanding in many of the things it does. The Government's own value added score lists the school as one of the best in the country. We should be proud of schools like George Mitchell and insist that the Government gets its act together. We will be asking the Education Minister to visit the school to find out for himself what a mistake he has made. He should be congratulating the Head, staff and the pupils for their excellent work.

I promise that I will not let you down. It is now time to look forward to the future. I, alongside my fellow Liberal Democrat councillor Farooq Qureshi, will continue to fight hard for our community and address the issues which you have told us about, such as crime, offices and our local environment.Thank you once again for electing me.

Would you believe it? Whilst Samina Safdar and your Local Forest Ward Focus team are campaigning to keep Post Offices open, our Labour MP, Harry Cohen, voted to close them during a recent vote in Parliament. Wanstead and Leyton Liberal Democrats are appalled that Harry Cohen has ignored local people and local services to support a Government intent on closing 2,500 Post Offices across the country. Post Office Ltd announced the closure of Post Office branches in Leyton High Road, Grove Green Road and Hall Lane. The branches will close shortly. This is after thousands of Post Office closures since Labour came to power. The Labour Government now plans to close a further 2,500, of which 169 are in London.

It is a two horse race in Forest Ward, if we look at last elections results you can see that only Labour or the Liberal Democrats can win. The by-election in Forest Ward was called because one of the three ward councillors has resigned, leaving only two - Liberal Democrat councillor Farooq Qureshi and a Labour councillor. The election is expected to be very close between hard working local resident Samina Safdar and the Labour Party candidate. Local people are backing Lib Dem Focus Team member Samina Safdar as they know that the Liberal Democrats work hard all the year round and not just at election times. People are saying that Labour has let them down. Make sure you vote, don't let Labour sneak in. Your vote counts - vote Liberal Democrat on June 12th.

Well, when did you last see him? At the last election perhaps? Has he or the Labour Party asked for your views on anything? Have they campaigned locally? Have they taken up local issues? Have they kept in touch and reported back? Of course, now there's an election you may have seen some leaflets. But what about all the years that you have had Labour councillors? Where have they been? Whilst Labour has ignored you, Samina Safdar and the Lib Dem Focus Team have run a surgery every Saturday, taken up local issues, asked for your views, campaigned locally and have reported back in the FOCUS newsletter - all year round - not just at election times. While Labour ignores you, we get on with the job!

Forest Ward campaigner Samina Safdar has recently been tackling issues in Hainault Road - Forest Road, Forest Drive West, Forest Road, Knotts Green Road, Epson Road and Canterbury Road.

Last year Gordon Brown, then the Chancellor of the Exchequer, abolished the 10p in the pound tax rate and cut the 22p tax rate to 20p. These changes came into effect this April, hitting the lowest paid hardest - particularly the young and those with no children. After a back bench revolt labour has promised compensation to those worse hit - but do you trust them? Now, Labour is planning to hit the low paid again, with massive increases in road tax for older cars! With ever increasing fuel costs and food bills, the Liberal Democrats are shocked that those on low incomes will continue to be the hardest hit under Labour.

Thanks to local Liberal Democrats the environment will be placed at the heart of Waltham Forest Council's agenda. From now onwards every report produced by the Council must include a 'Climate Change Impact Assessment'. This will force council decision makers to consider the effect that their actions will have on the environment. This was one of the raft of green measures introduced by the Liberal Democrats including working with businesses to introduce a 'bag for life' scheme for shoppers and campaigning to end free plastic bags in the borough.Forest Ward campaigner Samina Safdar says: "These are simple and effective measures introduced by the	Liberal Democrats to make the Council more environmentally friendly and improve the quality of local life".

In 2002, Government auditors rated Labour-run Waltham Forest as one of the worst in the country - a one star, failing council. Since then Liberal Democrats have increased the number of their councillors and are the only party to have councillors in all parts of our borough, helping to improve life for local people. The Government now rates the Council as an improving three star council. Lib Dems have done so well that last week the top Tory on the Council even suggested that a Liberal Democrat councillor should lead the Council! A political gesture, or a realisation that Lib Dems really do make a difference!
