"In these difficult times a £700 tax cut will be a godsend for everybody" Farooq Qureshi

Local campaigner Farooq Qureshi is backing plans which will see middle and working class families benefit from a tax cut worth up to £1,400 under the Lib Dems. The plans announced by Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg and Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Vince Cable mean the first £10,000 earned by each person will be exempt from income tax - a £700 tax cut for each working individual. Pensioners will be £100 a year better off too. The tax cut will be paid for by closing loopholes exploited by the very rich to avoid paying a fair share of tax. Part of the Lib Dem proposals include a 'mansion tax' on homes worth over £2million. Local campaigner Farooq Qureshi said: "In these difficult times a £700 tax cut will be a godsend. "Taking four million people out of tax will help the lowest paid and take pensioners off the bread-line. The Conservatives just want tax cuts for millionaires. Only we will cut tax for local families." He added: "Our plans will mean that the very rich will finally start paying their fair share and that local families will see their tax bill fall. Who can argue with that?"
