Forest Ward - Your candidates for the council elections on May 6th

Forest Focus Team Samina Safdar, Farooq Qureshi and Haroon Munir

On Thursday 6 May 2010 local elections will be held to elect three councillors to serve on Waltham Forest Council for Forest Ward. (The General Election to be held on the same day). The Focus Team for Forest Ward will be putting up three Liberal Democrat candidates Haroon Munir, Farooq Qureshi and Samina Sadar.

Haroon Munir was born and educated in Walthamstow. He is currently studying law at university.A young man with a passion for Waltham Forest, he is interested in helping young people overcome social and cultural barriers. He has worked on a number of youth

projects. Haroon has said that he would like to act as a voice for young people and wants to campaign for better sports and social facilities. He also believes that there is a need to encourage young people to become more involved in politics, both locally and nationally.

Farooq Qureshi has served as a Forest Ward councillor since 2003 and was honoured to be Mayor of Waltham Forest for 2006/7. He has been the Chair of the Planning and Licensing Committees and has chaired the Leyton & Whipps Cross Community Council. Farooq is married with a grown-up family; he has lived in Leyton since 1970.As a former school governor he is interested in education standards. He has also worked successfully on many local projects.

Samina Safdar is currently a councillor for Forest Ward. She was born and educated in Leyton and is married with three children. She works as the co-ordinator of an Asian Mothers Group. She is passionately concerned about the provision of care for children with disabilities. As a serving councillor she has enjoyed being able to help local people. Her other interests are Health Care and Social Services.
